Writing is a journey

I want to end our miniseries about writing with some wisdom from three different people: Corbett Barr, Seth Godin and Zig Ziglar.  This is my perspective about one of their talks.

Corbett Barr

Corbett talks about starting a blog that matters.  Be passionate about what you want to tell others and impact lives.  It is important to believe in what you do so much that you can’t help but get your information to those who need it most.

He goes on to talk about doing your best.  He says not to ‘cop out.’  Be good up front and do your best work.  You are allowed to start somewhere as an expert, but start by doing your best.  You are on a journey, and you are always growing.  Put the information out from where you are and grow with your writing.

Seth Godin

Seth takes on the perspective of an artist.  He defines an artist as someone who is human and personal.  It is someone who values the changes in others by their story.  If you story is not out to impact the world, you are doing a disservice.

He talks about us being in a post industrial world where connected is the new economy. It is about how you impact others that really matters.  It is better to ship something out that is good enough that to perfect it so much that no one ever sees it.  We must have standards, but it does not good if no one ever sees it.

Zig Ziglar

Zig says that it takes bravery to learn a new skill.  Learning is part of growing and we all should be learning. We should be connecting with people and learning to impact their lives.  To do this we must learn one thing and learn to do it better than everyone else. Then, you will impact lives.

“You will get all you want in life if you help enough other people get what they want.” This is a famous saying of Zig’s.  It is important to realize that you can only help other people if you get out to where those other people are.  You can have the best idea in the world, but if it stays in your brain it will help no one.

SUMMARY

Start somewhere and share your passion.

Impact others by getting your message to the world.

Help others by impacting lives.
